CMS-NAMM Summer Program for Music Faculty – 13-15 July 2017

Don Bowyer will serve as Co-Chair of the Program Committee for the first annual CMS-NAMM Summer Program for Music Faculty in July, 2017. This workshop experience is being jointly created by the College Music Society and the National Association of Music Merchants, and is aimed at bringing together music faculty and music industry.

Composition and Paper at College Music Society International Conference in Australia – 9-13 July 2017

Don Bowyer will present a composition and a paper at the College Music Society International Conference in Sydney, Australia July 9-13, 2017. The composition, titled “The Road Not Taken” is a setting of a Robert Frost poem for soprano and trombone. The paper is titled “Music of the Indigenous Peoples of Malaysia.”

The Birmingham Art Music Alliance presented a concert on September 27, 2011, at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, featuring music by Alabama composers. The concert included The Road Not Taken by Don Bowyer, based on the poem by Robert Frost. Performers were Karen Young, soprano, and Don Bowyer, trombone.

Don Bowyer had a composition performed in Denmark on August 20. SaKaZie, a Danish chamber music trio consisting of Rolf Sandmark, trombone, Kristen Kardel, soprano; and Birgitte Zielke, piano; performed Frozen Toes ‘n Nose ‘n Freezin’ Knees at the Vor Frue Kirke in Aalborg, Denmark, as part of the Open Days contemporary Music Festival.
